Yannis Angel’s works question the fundamental ambiguity of this narcissistic gaze, the queer angle of this twisted look upon oneself, searching for the impossible grasp on an invisible being. The major part of his photographs can be seen as a series of portraits articulated around an “absent mirror”. They seem to repeat ad libidum the same contradictory motto : “You can only see yourself, you can never see yourself.”
